Visitors are invited to experience one of Oregon’s oldest family wine estates. Girardet is located on southwest facing slopes in a small valley just outside of Roseburg.  Founders Philippe and Bonnie Girardet established this European-style wine estate in 1971 with an intuition that this picturesque site resembled the best vineyard lands of Philippe’s homeland of Switzerland. Over the years they were proven right: the site features an ideal micro-climate on the edge of the warmer interior Umpqua Valley and the cooler coastal mountain range.

Philippe released his first vintage of wines in 1983, and the following year received two silver medals at the Oregon State Fair. Second generation Swiss-American Winemaker, Marc Girardet, was taught the family tradition of winemaking working alongside his father Philippe.  Marc became the winemaker in 1999 and has been carrying on the passion for handcrafting extraordinary wines.

The charming, cedar-sided winery has a 10,000 case production capacity, and all wines are aged and bottled on the premises. The tasting room and picnic area are situated along the path of the historic Coos Bay Wagon Road. This road dates back to 1872 and was the first land route to connect the Umpqua Valley to Coos Bay.

Over 40 acres of estate vineyards are farmed using sustainable methods, growing natural grapes in a healthy environment. Beneficial insects and cover crops are used to keep the vines healthy without the use of pesticides, and selected animals are encouraged to live in the vineyards and keep pests away. Dry-farming techniques are used to produce small, flavor-packed berries and conserve water. The vines are always hand-harvested and pruned. The adherence to these natural, Old-World ways has led to the creation of many award-winning wines over the decades. The Girardet family welcomes visitors to experience Old-World Swiss charm at their tasting room and vineyards.
